The Safety Tower
It was the first time we reached the sea on this forty-day trek. We were lucky to find a place to sleep just fifty meters from the water.
After a lousy, overpriced dinner, we saw a storm rolling in from the horizon and ran through the thickening wind back to the hostel, just as the first heavy drops fell.
Inside, we watched through fogged glass as people scattered, caught off guard by the rain. That’s when I noticed a tower – a small shelter standing against the chaos.
Minutes later, the rain eased and the streets emptied. I grabbed my camera, ran into the wet silence, and took a few quick shots.
It was the first time I’d used my camera on this journey, and somehow the picture captured the trip: gloom, storms, and the brief refuges of warmth we found – in the weather and in ourselves. Always soaked, always tired, yet always finding a place to breathe, if only for a moment.
